We followed the ECT map which took us up past LeMoyne College before heading back down Ron Erie Canal Blvd. it seems there must be a safe secret route we missed! Anyone care to divulge.

You must be using an old map. The new route goes right down the middle of Erie Blvd. in it's own bike lane, no where near the college anymore. The new edition "Cycling the Erie Canal" has current info.

I stayed overnight in downtown Old Town Syracuse so that I could walk to see the night illumination of the Art Deco Niagara Mohawk Building, which did not disappoint! Also wanted to eat at the legendary Dinosaur Barbecue, which did disappoint. The next day I rode east on East Genessee all the way to the ECT with a short connection on Butternut Road at the end. Like Erie Blvd it is a busy city road, but IMO more pleasant than Erie Blvd. It does have a hill...
