As of May 2021 the detour has been remarked to use Route 31 to the south, a higher speed road with much more traffic but proper shoulder markings/bike lanes (wide enough for decent traffic separation) and an overall better alternative, BUT, the asphalt bike lane surface apparently isn't swept regularly and is loaded with typical winter road debris, including broken glass. Hoping it will get cleaned up before the summer biking season.

There has been further major erosion of the trail banking around the aqueduct this spring, so it doesn't look like there will be a quick fix and trail section reopening any time soon.
