Empire State Trail
The Erie Canalway Bike Trail is a key part of the Empire State Trail, a trail system which spans the state of New York from New York City to the Canadian border, as well as from Albany to Buffalo. It was completed at the end of 2020.
At 750 miles, the Empire State Trail is the longest multi-use trail in the country. Some sections are on-road, but off-road trail resources are used as much as possible. Thhis trail system links together several existing trails, including:
Hudson Valley Greenway
, which runs from the southern tip of Manhattan up past Albany to Saratoga County
Putnam Trailway
near Brewster
Wallkill Valley Rail Trail
in the New Paltz and Kingston area
Beacon Rail Trail / Maybrook Trailway
in Putnam and Dutchess counties
Dutchess Rail Trail
in Dutchess County
Hudson Valley Rail Trail
in Highland
Albany-Hudson Electric Trail
between Hudson and Rensselaer
Corning Preserve Trail in Albany
Mohawk Hudson Bike Hike Trail
which covers 86 miles from Albany to Watervliet
Champlain Valley Trail
Champlain Canalway Trail
between Waterford and Whitehall, along the Mohawk, Hudson and Batten Kill Rivers
Saranac River Trail
in Plattsburgh

the Erie Canalway Bike Trail
